Life-Saving Swim Lessons that Prepare Children for the Unexpected In the Water

After surviving a shocking encounter with a wild otter in Lake Tahoe, I have an even deeper appreciation for the importance of water competency. As a Certified ISR Instructor, I teach young children the skills they need to respond when the unexpected happens in and around the water.

Lessons are available mornings at a private indoor pool in Reno and afternoons at the Incline Village Recreation Center.

Welcome to ISR Reno-Tahoe, where water safety comes first.

If you’re looking for swim lessons that teach your child how to survive and thrive in the water, you’ve come to the right place.

At ISR Reno-Tahoe, I believe swimming is about more than learning to swim. It’s about giving children the skills to respond when the unexpected happens in the water.

Infant Swimming Resource teaches babies, toddlers and young children age-appropriate Self-Rescue skills in private, 10-minute lessons. Over the course of a session, children learn to swim, float, breathe and work their way to safety, building both water competency and confidence along the way.

Because we can’t predict what will happen around the water. But we can prepare children to respond.

The Self-Rescue Swim Instructor that Survived an Otter Attack

I never expected to be the one facing an unexpected water emergency.

After 25 years of swimming in Lake Tahoe, I was attacked by a wild otter during what began as an ordinary open-water swim. The experience reinforced something I’ve taught my students for years: you can’t predict the water, but you can prepare for it.

Read my firsthand account of the attack and what it taught me about water competency, preparedness and why swimming skills matter at every age.
